Film Photography – Guest Post – Nasir Hamid

I absolutley love fim photography and fortunatley there does seem to be a growing interest in this area.

Today I’m absolutely delighted to be able to feature a selection of film photography from the very talented Nasir Hamid.

I had the good fortune and pleasure of meeting Nasir, albeit briefly on my visit to the UK – HERE

Nasir was kind enough to furnish me with a large selection of images, with that came the very difficult task of editing down to the selection below. Needless to say I went back and forth with the selection process several times……

I’ll leave you with some words from my guest and I really hope you enjoy these images as much as I do.

From Nasir -

A huge portion of my film photography is done during my lunch hour and I’m out pretty much every week day (unless it’s very wet), walking the streets of Oxford with a camera in hand. My passion is film photography and I enjoy using various cameras from 35mm, medium format up to 10×8 large format. It’s such a great time to be using film with so many of my dream cameras from back in the day now being more affordable than they ever were before. Using a beautifully designed and engineered mechanical camera that doesn’t need batteries to function, just using silver and light to make images is pure photography for me. The best advice I can give is to produce personal work for yourself and enjoy every minute of it. Photography should be fun, not a chore.

Cheers,
Nasir

Once again, a big thank you to Nasir for sharing his images and thoughts here. I find these images so enjoyable to view, it takes a real dedication and passion to go out most days in your lunch break and take such great shotss. Nasir is well practiced and he really does have a wonderful nack of being able to put people at ease and capture them in a natural way. I find it particularly impressive that he’s able to achieve this regardles of the equipment he’s using, he really does have great technical ability.

On a slightly more technical note you don’t need to be a genius to notice the quality of the processing and scan’s in this post, it all adds up to make the images very, very impressive.

You can follow Nasir’s film photography on the fantastic Simply Oxford Blog – HERE

& also on his Flickr – HERE

Cheers, Jason.

Awesome Nasir. Really great portraits and images.

So what do you use “most of the time” for your out and about shooting? What is your favourite film camera?

    Thanks

    Andy

    • Nasir Hamid says:

Thanks, Andy. I have so many favourite cameras that I can’t choose between them so I try to rotate which one’s I use and I go in phases. At the moment I’ve been using a Rolleiflex TLR quite a bit but my Pentax 67 hasn’t seen much use for a while so I will probably give that some use soon and then I’ll probably go to my Speed Graphic 5×4 or Super D 5×4 because I haven’t shot large format in a while… :-)

Great to see like minded people such as Jason and Nasir share their passion.
Sometimes you can’t beat the tools of old. I hope they never kill off film.
How’s the dicky knee coming along big J?

    • janrzm says:

Hi, there are lots of us hoping that!!

The knee’s making progress thank, big J isn’t too far from the truth at the moment, looking forward to getting some exercise….. :)

Those are really nice images. Great portraits.
I’m still getting used to asking people for allowance to take their picture.

No 6 is my favorite. (Didn’t see it on flickr, though, would you share some more info on it?)

    • Nasir Hamid says:

Thanks, Peti. There are more images on my blog than on Flickr.

No 6 was shot in May 2011, I used a Pentax 67 with 105/2.4 lens. From memory I think I used Fuji Acros 100 film.
